Customers in San Antonio, TX recently asked us to create original multimedia resources with author Matt de la Peña. Matt was the keynote speaker at the 2009 Library Resource Roundup and also presented at the NYC Office of Library Services 2009 fall conference. He is the author of Ball Don’t Lie (Delacorte, 2005) and Mexican White Boy (Delacorte, 2008), which were both named as ALA-YALSA Best Books for Young Adults.
It’s our great pleasure to announce these new original resources, made upon request with Matt de la Peña.
In this TeachingBooks.net original Book Reading, Matt shares how he came to write Mexican Whiteboy and reads a brief excerpt. Share this clip with students as a way for them to “meet” Matt and hear about how his experiences led him to write this story. In his audio clip Matt also shares a great creative writing tip, but you’ll have to listen to find out.
- Hear Matt de la Peña introduce and read from Mexican White Boy.
- Explore Matt’s website.
- Ball Don’t Lie has been made into a movie! Watch the trailer.
- Listen to Matt pronounce and tell about his name.
If there’s an author or book that is relevant to your curricula, and you would like us to find and/or create relevant resources, please let us know.
