Resources upon request: Ashley Rhodes-Courter
We strive to make the TeachingBooks.net collection and site relevant for our customers, so it’s always a pleasure to produce or add new multimedia resources about the books you are studying.
This post introduces a new category of posts on our blog that we’re calling “Resources Upon Request.” These posts will outline how TeachingBooks.net can create and/or add resources for the authors and books you’re studying. These posts will highlight specific customer requests we’ve responded to.
Posts in this category will also outline the other ways in which TeachingBooks.net can be customized for your optimal use, including the creation of classroom, school, and state-wide custom reading lists.
Customers in Florida recently asked us to create original multimedia resources with author Ashley Rhodes-Courter. Ashley is on the 2009-2010 Florida Teens Read list and customers in Florida let us know her work is relevant and important to them. Her memoir Three Little Words (S&S, 2009) is an account of the nine years of childhood that Ashley spent in the foster care system. We contacted Ashley to create an original Book Reading and her Author Name Pronunciation.
In this TeachingBooks.net original Book Reading, Ashley explains some of her personal inspiration for writing Three Little Words and then reads a compelling excerpt. These original Book Readings are excellent to share with students before, during, and/or after they read Ashley’s book, as a way for them to “meet” her virtually. Audio resources can also be an icebreaker for discussing difficult or emotional issues.
You can learn the story of Ashley’s name in her Author Name Pronunciation message.
If there’s an author or book that is relevant to your curricula, and you would like for us to find and/or create resources, please let us know.
